Case study
Daniel had owned his apartment in Leiden for several years. His fixed-rate period was coming to an end, and his current lender had sent him a new interest-rate offer.
Rather than accepting it immediately, Daniel wanted to know whether moving his mortgage to another lender could give him better terms. He contacted Luc to understand his options and whether switching would actually be worthwhile once all the costs were taken into account.
1. Reviewed Daniel’s existing mortgage
Because Daniel had worked with Luc before, Luc was already familiar with his mortgage history. He reviewed the remaining mortgage balance, current property value and the new interest rate offered by Daniel’s existing lender.
2. Compared staying with switching lenders
Luc compared the offer from Daniel’s current lender with mortgage options from other lenders to see whether refinancing could provide better terms.
3. Calculated the real cost of refinancing
A lower interest rate does not automatically mean a better deal. Luc included the costs involved in switching lenders so Daniel could see the real financial difference between staying and refinancing.
4. Explained the options clearly
Luc showed Daniel how the different options would affect his monthly payments and overall mortgage costs, giving him a clear comparison before making a decision.
5. Arranged the switch to the new lender
After reviewing the options, Daniel decided to refinance with another lender. Luc arranged the new mortgage application and guided him through the process from the application through to completion.
